CELTIC BRITAIN, Uninscribed coinage but attributed to Queen Boudicca, Iceni, silver unit, c.A.D. 60, (1.10 grams), obv. head to right without ear, branch behind, rev. horse right, wheel above and lozenge ornament below, (S.434 [£150 VF], Van A. 794-1). Dark tone, nearly very fine.
Ex Pegg Collection, sold Spink 8th October 1980. The attribution of this issue to the famous Queen Boudicca has been established by a statistical study of coin hoards deposited during the Icenian rebellion of 61 A.D. Wear has indicated that they are the latest issues and follow the ECEN type. Single coin finds have been found that are linked to a Flavian date.
