SOLD $180

JUSTINIAN I, (527-565), gold solidus, issue of 545-565, Constantinople mint, (3.882 grams), obv. helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding globe on cross and shield, around DINVSTINI ANVS PP AVC, rev. Angel standing facing holding long cross with P at top, cross on globe, around VICTORI A AVCCCI, in exergue CONOB, star in right field, (S.140, DOC 9j, R.456, T.39). Light weight, has been filed around the edge, otherwise nearly very fine.

A curious mis-spelled obverse legend which is most unusual. The edge filing has reduced the weight of the coin by over half a gram.
