FRANCE, feudal, Valence, 12th century, billon deniers, obv. +SAPOLLINARS, cross pomm‚e with annulet in fourth quarter, rev. VALENTIA VRBS or var., winged angel or eagle facing (Metcalf 19-40, [Pl. 2]). Fine, one with patch of corrosion. (3)
These coins were one of the two preferred types to circulate in the crusader states in the twelth century.
