ITALY, Lucania, Poseidonia, (c.480-450 B.C.), silver stater or nomos, (8.036 grams), obv. Poseidon, naked but for chlamys over shoulder, advancing brandishing trident, **POMES* reversed downwards, rev. bull walking to right, all within incuse circle, above **POMES* (retrograde), (cf. S.424, HN 1114, BMC 22, SNG ANS 646, SNG Cop.1277, SNG Munich 1056). Very fine, and very scarce.
Ex CNG private purchase 2007. Reversed or retrograde legends occur on several coins from this city.
