MADRAS PRESIDENCY, European Style Coinages, First Issue, 1807, silver double fanam, obv. around in English DOUBLE FANAM, centre in Persian 'double fanam', rev. native text in Tamil and Telugu around and in centre in two lines, 'two fanams', variants with and without centre circles on obverse and reverse, silver fanam, obv. around in English FANAM, above crossed branches, star in centre, rev. star in centre circle around 'Fanam' in both languages Tamil and Teluga, (Pr. 161, 162, 167, KM. 336, 339, 340). Very fine - nearly extremely fine and all scarce. (3)
Ex Wodak Collection, for first two coins, all from the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection, Noble Numismatics Sale 48 (lot 2001). The first issue with distinctive designs are much scarcer than the larger mintage issues of 1808.
