AUGUSTUS AS OCTAVIAN, (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), silver denarius, uncertain Italian mint (probably Brundisium, maybe Rome), issued 29-27 B.C. (3.83 grams), obv. Victory draped standing to right on prow, right hand holds wreath and left hand a palm, rev. IMP CAESAR in exergue, Octavian standing in ornamental slow quadriga to right, holding branch in right hand and reins in left hand, (S.458, RIC 264, C.115, BMC 617). Old scratch on obverse, off centred on the reverse, otherwise very fine and rare.

Ex B.R. Noble collection, sold Glendining's, London December 11 1975 (lot 181). This coin refers to Octavian's triumph after the battle of actium and the defeat of Sextus Pompey.
