GROUP OF SIX. Military Medal (GVIR); 1939- 45 Star; Italy Star; France and Germany Star; Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939- 45). 6916740 Rfm F.G. Jordan rifle Brigade. First medal only named, impressed. Very fine.

MM LG 1 March 1945: 'on the night of 10/11 October 1944, two mortar platoons and a section of carriers of 'A' Company, supported by a troop of tanks, were holding the village of Geffen. This force was twice attacked by a battalion of enemy infantry supported by artillery and mortar fire. During the second attack and coincident with heavy shell fire, a half track vehicle of one of the platoons received a direct hit from a shell, immediately bursting into flames. The burning vehicle was endangering other vehicles and the flames were in danger of disclosing our positions to the enemy. Rifleman Jordan accompanied his platoon Sergeant to the courtyard where the vehicles were parked and despite the danger of exploding ammunition on the burning vehicle, which was loaded with mines, 2 inch mortar bombs, grenedes etc, some of which was already exploding, drove three vehicles from the area. Having done this, Rifleman Jordan returned to his platoon Sergeant and assisted him to put out the flames in two houses set afire. Having completed this task he then assited the Sergeant to rescue civilians trapped in a cellar by blazing petrol. He then returned to his posistion. This work was carried out by Rifleman Jordan with complete disregard for his own safety and with the ever present danger of the mines e.t.c, exploding ihn addition to the enemy shell and mortar fire which intensified when the vehicles began to burn.'
