Major A.M.Terry R.E.on first medal, Major A.M.Terry on second and third medals and Captain A.M.Terry. 1/Durham R.E.V; on the fourth medal. Son. Pair: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-1919. F.29724 M.Terry P.O.M. R.N.A.S. All medals impressed. Very fine.

Michael Terry migrated to Australia and became one of its best-known modern explorers. In 1933 he discovered Hidden Basin which contains two salt water lakes about 800 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs. He also authored many articles and books, best known are Across Unknown Australia and Sands and Sun. During WWI he served with the Royal Naval Air Service in Russia, was captured by the Russians, and with others was lined up before a firing squad only to be saved by a British officer who was able to talk the executioners out of it.
