EGYPT, Kingdom of, Ptolemy II, (285-246 B.C.), gold pentadrachm, issued 285-266 B.C., (17.838 grams), Alexandria mint, obv. diademed head of Ptolemy I to right, with aegis, rev. eagle to left with closed wings, standing on thunderbolt, in front monogram over shield, behind AI monogram, around **BASILEWS PTOLEMAIOU*, (S.7757, Sv. 551 [p.83, Pl.XIV, 5], cf.BMC 3 [p.46, tetradrachm]). Attractive nearly extremely fine and very rare.

Svoronos knew of only one example of this variety.
