GROUP OF SIX TO FLIGHT LIEUTENANT WILLIAM ALFRED ALLINSON, Royal Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross (1945); Distinguished Flying Medal (GVIR) (526281. A/Sgt. W.A.Allinson. R.A.F.); 1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star (France and Germany); Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939-45. Court mounted for wear. Distinguished Flying Medal named engraved, others unnamed. Very fine.

DFC: London Gazette 2 October 1945. 'For gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations. Since the award of the D.F.M. in 1940, this officer of 140 Squadron has carried out two further operational tours, one on Lancaster aircraft in Bomber Command and one on Mosquito aircraft in 140 Squadron. He is undoubtedly the most experienced Navigator on the Squadron, and also one of Squadron's most skilled radar operators. As Navigator to F/Lt Cartmell, his coolness and efficiency in all circumstances have been outstanding, and his resource and initiative have, on more than one occasion enabled a target to be covered when normal methods have failed. His keenness to fly at every opportunity have earned him the respect and admiration of his fellows.'

DFM: London Gazette 22 October 1940. 'For gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations. This airman of 75 Squadron has been continuously employed since the beginning of the year, as Navigator, and Bomb Aimer, on active operations against the enemy. He has taken part in a total of twenty eight sorties, these having been made to the following countries: - One night reconnaissance and Nickel raid into Germany, twenty seven major bombing attacks on targets in Norway, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium and France. The work of this airman has been of the highest order; his navigation being an excellent model for others to follow; and his bomb aiming is most consistent, and proves a high state of efficiency. This was brought out on the night of 18/19th July, 1940 when his aircraft attacked two stationary supply trains in the Marshalling Yards at SOLTAU, when he was able to score several direct hits, causing heavy explosions and large fires, that were still visible over thirty miles away.'

Remarks by A.O.C.: 'A Navigator who has become outstanding in a unit where navigation is of an exceptionally high standard. His ability as a Bomber Aimer is almost equal to that as a Navigator. His success on the night of 18th/19th July 1940, is only an instance in a consistently good operational record.'
