NICHOLAS I, (1825 - 1855), 1825 dated Medal or ’Acession Rouble’ comprising 50 medals or pattern roubles in golden alloy, 50 medals or pattern roubles and 50 in nickel silver, in high grade copper, struck to a prooflike/proof finish in limited quantities, FDC. (150)

From a total mintage of only 750 pieces of each metal. Nicholas was the third son of Paul I and because he was considered unlikely to rule Russia he received an education in military engineering and travelled extensively. Having survived the Decembrist revolt he saw his role in Russia as that of a paternal autocrat who would keep heavy restraints on Russian society. In Europe he became the standard bearer for the forces of reaction.
