RAAF, 86 Transport Wing, enamel and gilt badge (KC) (32mm x 21mm) by Stokes & Sons, Melb; RNZAF commemorative medal for introduction of P-3 Orion into service, September 1966, in bronze (39mm). Extremely fine. (2)
No 86 (Transport) Wing established at Schofields, NSW, August 1946 comprising 36, 37 and 38 Squadrons operating C-47 Dakota Transport aircraft. It relocated to Richmond in 1949 and was disbanded in 1964, later reformed in 1987 operating Boeing 707s and Hercules C-130s. It also included AMTDU and 486 Maintenance Squadron.
