MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.58 grams), `Amphipolis' mint, issued c.330-320 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with serpent, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, kantharos in left field, to right **ALEXANDPOU*, (cf.S.6702; Price 168, M.193, BMC 168a-d). Well centred, probably from a clamp mounting with surface smoothing, otherwise good very fine.
