Ex Noble Numismatics, sale 65, lot 1895. Ex Hans Schulman, New York auction, February 14, 1958 (lot 2095). This piece forms part of an exceptional issue by the state in 102 B.C., possibly as a reaction to the influence of Gaius Marius whose prestige was at its height at that time.
