ELAGABALUS, (A.D. 218-222), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 219, (2.85 grams), obv. laureate bust of Elagabalus draped to right, around IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, rev. around FIDES MILITVM, Legionary eagle between two standards, without shields at base, (cf.S.7514, RIC 77, RSC 43, BMC 202). Minor surface pitting, struck on a full flan, good very fine and a very rare variant.

Ex Harlan Berk with ticket. This variant without shields at the base of the standards is very rare and perhaps only occurs on this one reverse die.
