MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.45 grams), Byblos mint, issued 330-320 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, serpent on helmet, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, and ship mast, to left in lower left AP monogram, to right downwards **ALEXANDPO[U]*, (cf.S.6702; Price 3423, BMC 3423a-b [p.431], M.1374). Minor edge marks otherwise good very fine.
Illustrated in the Australian Numismatist 2007 in a paper by Tom May 'Trade Gold - Some Key Coins of World Commerce in History' (p.57).
