ATTICA, Athens. silver tetradrachm, (c.165-42 B.C.), 30mm, (16.92 grams), New Style coinage, with the names of Dioph- and Diodotos as the magistrates, issue struck 144-143 B.C., obv. head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing necklace, pendent earring, and triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with a filleted thyrsos, a Pegasos in flight rightward above the raised earpiece, rev. owl standing to right, head facing, on amphora, A-**Q*E above **DI OFA/DIO/DO* (magistrates names) in four lines across field, Apollo figure to left, H on amphora, ME below, all within wreath. (cf.S.2555, cf.Thompson 188c). Struck on a broad flan, slight surface pitting on reverse, otherwise very fine and a scarce type.
