C. NORBANUS, (c.83 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.28 grams), obv. diademed head of Venus to right, C. NORBANVS below, CLX behind, rev. ear of corn, fasces and caduceus within dotted border, (S.278, Cr.357/1b, Syd.739, RSC.Norbana 2). Test cut on reverse, otherwise bright, extremely fine and scarce.
The corn and caduceus on the reverse alludes to the moneyer's father who provisioned the town of Rhegium during the Social War of 91-88 B.C.
