HERENNIUS ETRUSCUS AS CAESAR, (A.D. 250-251), antoninianus, (4.74 g), obv. radiate bust of Herennius Etruscus to right, around Q HER ETR MES DECIVS NOB C, rev. PRINCIPI IVVENTVTIS around, Herennius Etruscus in military attire standing to left holding baton and transverse spear, (S.9523, RIC 147c, RSC 26). Struck on a full flan, nearly extremely fine and scarce.
Herennius died in battle against the Goths with his father Trajan Decius. It was the first time a Roman emperor fell in combat with a foreign enemy.
