LIFESAVING AWARDS: Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society's Marine Medal, in silver (38mm), edge inscribed, '.Mr. Scrafton Holthouse for rescue of a boy who had fallen into the River Mersey on 1st Dec. 1903.', with ribbon buckle bar suspender, in original case of issue with the Society's logo on the lid, made by R.C.Oldfield, Liverpool; Royal Humane Society Medal in bronze (38mm) edge inscribed, 'Sub Lieut. S.Le G.Holthouse. R.N.R. 13th April 1917', with ribbon buckle bar suspender, in original case by Elkington & Co Ltd. The last with suspension slightly bent, otherwise extremely fine. (2)
Citation for RHS Medal: S.Le Gay Holthouse Sub Lieut RNR Case 43274. At 9p.m. on the 13th April, 1917, a man fell from a ferry steamer into the harbour at Portsmouth. Sub Lt S.Le Gay Holthouse, R.N.R. jumped in and with the help of a lifebuoy which was thrown succeeded in saving him.
