'PILLARS' MASTER MASONS CERTIFICATES, all for Portland Lodge of Victoria, all signed, a few also signed by recipients, numbered and with the affixed impressed paper seal of the United Grand Lodge, the first three under Grand Master The Right Honourable The Earl of Zetland and named 289 Thomas Lochland, 5 February 1856; 292 Grenaway Rogerson, 5 February 1856; 921 Charles F. Crouch, 11 April 1864; and another three under Grand Master His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales named to 1265 Daniel Jones, 20 March 1878; 1273 Robert Law, 20 March 1878; 5866 Edward Reynolds, 2 October 1879; the document for 921 Crouch also signed by T.H.Lempriere D.G.Secy and also by the Past Grand Master for Victoria and with the Masonic Grand Lodge Victoria impressed paper seal. All with folds, good very fine - extremely fine. (6)

Thomas H.Lempriere was Grand Scribe Ezra from the Inauguration of Supreme Grand Chapter for the years 1889/90 to 1893/94.

All of the certificates are of the type issued by the Grand Lodge of England prior to the formation of the United Grand Lodge of Victoria in 1889. The first two are for Portland Lodge No 841 and the rest are for Portland Lodge No 576. The number change was the result of renumbering under the English Constitution due to a 'Closing the Ranks' in 1863 because of various reasons such as amalgamations and mass movement of people resulting from events like gold rushes.
