PRIMITIVE MONEY, Africa, Zaire or Congo, anchor or lance money, in copper, attributed to Bangala (Opitz p.102, Althoff p.30) and Lobala and Banja groups of the Ngbaka people (Ballarini B5.145, Westerdijk, 1984, #123), length 17 cm, width 10cm, with double row stipled decoration around the edge of the lance. Very fine and rare.
These unusual shaped objects could also have been used as currency.
