JULIUS CAESAR, (assassinated 44 B.C.), issued c.46-5 B.C., silver denarius, Spanish mint, (3.93 g), obv. Venus diademed head to right, small Cupid behind at shoulder, rev. Gaulish captive and Gallia captive seated beneath trophy, CAESAR in exergue, (S.1404, Syd. 1014, Cr.468/1, RSC Julius Caesar 13). Delightful grey tone with highlights of blue and gold patination on the reverse, nearly extremely fine and rare in this condition.
