PAIR: Crimea Medal 1854-56, - clasp - Sebastopol; Turkish Crimea Medal 1855-56 (British issue). Armrs. Serjt. John Ancill 44th Regt. on first medal, the second medal unnamed as issued. The named medal impressed. The second medal missing suspension ring and ribbon, a few surface marks on Crimea Medal, otherwise very fine.

John Ancill, armourer, age 25, born at Newport, Shopshire, England; Enl.04Dec1848 with East Essex Regt of Foot (44th); served overseas in Malta and the Crimea; died in Madras 16Nov1858, whilst serving as an Armourer Sgt., cause unknown, but it is most likely he died due to illness while the regiment awaited embarkation to China.
