MASONIC JEWEL, Commemoration of Welfare and Temperance Lodges jewel in gilt silver with enamel and jewels, affixed to the ribbon is a gilt tablet inscribed, 'To Commemorate the/Consolidation of Lodges/Welfare No.616/and/Temperance No.179/as Lodge/Welfare Temperance No.616/U.G.L. of N.S/.W./10th April, 1975', reverse of jewel inscribed, 'Presented to/P.M. Bro. Major B.Solomon/by the bretheren of/Macdonnell Lodge No.10 S.A.C./as a slight token of/respect & esteem/during his term of W.M./ending Oct. 17th 1889. Very fine.

Benjamin Solomon was the Worshipful Master of Macdonnell Lodge No 10 South Australian Chapter (Glenelg) in 1888-89. His family history indicates that he was the first Jewish Lt Colonel in the Australian Army.
