CLAUDIUS AND AGRIPPINA JUNIOR (AS JOINT RULERS), (A.D. 49-54), gold aureus, (7.624 grams), issued 51, Lugdunum mint, obv. TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG GERM P M TRIB POT P P, laureate head to right, rev. AGRIPPINAE AVGVSTAE around, draped bust of Agrippina Junior to right, wreathed with corn ears, (S.1885 [£900 VF], RIC 80, C.3). Good very fine and very rare.

Claudius married his niece Agrippina as his fourth wife in A.D. 49. Later she was elevated to the rank of Augusta and a few coins were struck in the joint names of the emperor and empress.
