TRAJAN, (A.D. 98-117), gold aureus, Rome mint, issued A.D. 115, (7.168 grams), obv. laureate bust of Trajan, draped and cuirassed to right, around IMP TRAIANVS AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, rev. in exergue BASILICA VLPIA, frontal view of the Basilica Ulpia, showing entablatures supported by Ionic columns and surmounted by elaborate group of statuary with facing quadriga at centre, (S.3085, RIC 248, C 43). Very fine and rare.

The Basilica Ulpia stood on the north-western side of Trajan's Forum and was dedicated to the emperor in 112 A.D.
