CONSTANTIUS II, (A.D. 337-361), gold solidus, Thessalonica mint, issued 347-355, (4.494 grams), obv. laurel and rosette diademed bust of Constantius II, draped and cuirassed to right, around F L IVL CONSTAN TIVS P F AVG, rev. emperor in military dress standing left, holding trophy on spear and resting left hand on a shield, either side a seated captive, around legend VIRTVS EXERCITVM, in exergue star TES, (cf.S.3988, RIC 32 var [R3], C.-). As struck, good extremely fine and a very rare variety.
