SYRIA, Kingdom of, Antiochus III, (223-187 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.792 grams), Series III, Antioch on the Orontes mint, issued 208-200 B.C., obv. diademed head of Antiochus III to right, one diadem rises behind head, filleted border, rev. Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow and bow, on right **[B]ASILEWS, to left **ANTIO COU*, to left a tripod, (cf.S.6935, SC 1044.2, Newell WSM 1096b, SNG Israel (Spaer) 543, Hunter 13). High relief, off centred obverse, minor test cut on reverse, otherwise good very fine and very scarce.

Ex Patrick Cooper Collection (lot 1567 part) and previously bought from Simmons & Simmons, London, Coinex, October 1988. Newell notes a total of 5 tetradrachms of this type mostly in public collections.
