PHOENICIA, Arados, (2nd-1st century B.C., but dated year 170 = 90/89 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (14.838 grams), obv. turreted and veiled bust of Tyche to right dotted border, rev. Nike standing to left, holding aphlaston and palm-branch, **ARADIWN* to right, to left OP (year 194 = 65-64 B.C.), over 'aleph' over **MS*, all within laurel wreath, (S.5992, Kromann 'Studies in Ancient History and Numismatics to Rudi Thomsen p.112 notes 4 specimens of this date and variety). Toned, slightly off centred obverse, good very fine and very scarce.

The study of this series of tetradrachms of Arados by Kromann in Thomsen as above shows that these civic tetradrachms began in 138/7 B.C., and continued until 44/3 B.C. She records only about 150 examples in her extensive survey.
