Those competing were no slouches in the shooting department as two of those competing were Sergeant W.S.Barron who had won the QRA Queen's Prize in 1881 representing C Coy, 1st Volunteer Regt and Sergeant T Grimes who also won the QRA Queen's Prize in 1883 as a member of the same unit, again in 1889 representing C Coy Moreton Regt and for the third time as a civilan representing Queensland English Rifle Club.
