MARCUS AURELIUS, (A.D. 161-180), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 174, (3.230 grams), obv. laureate head of Marcus Aurelius to right, around M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXVIII, rev. around IMP VII COS III, Victory advancing to right, holding wreath and trophey, (cf.S.4904, BMC 609, RIC 301, RSC 325). Lightly toned, extremely fine/good very fine and scarce.
Ex Patrick Cooper Collection with his ticket and previously from Mark Vimcenzi at Coinex (London), October 1983. The Reka Devnia hoard of 88,044 silver coins contained 7716 coins of Marcus Aurelius and included only 14 coins of this variety.
