ITALY, Lucania, Velia, (c.293/290-280 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.35 g), Period VIII, workshop of caduceus group, obv. head of Athena to left, wearing crested Athenian helmet with griffin, **F* on flap, AP monogram behind, rev. lion walking to right, caduceus above, **UELHTWN* in exergue, (cf.S.454, Williams 539 [similar dies]). Toned, nearly very fine, scarce.
