BOARD OF TRADE, Sea Gallantry Medal, bronze medal by B. Wyon, AE 58, struck 1855, obv. Queen Victoria laureate head to left, 'AWARDED BY THE BOARD OF TRADE FOR GALLANTRY IN SAVING LIFE' around, rev. three men and a woman with infant, upon a raft in rough seas, (MH 1919, 815; Eimer 1503a, Brettauer 3925). Extremely fine.

Ex Downie Sale 232, September 1990 (lot 956).
The medal was awarded to those who risked their own lives. It was issued in silver and bronze.
