Able Seaman Herbert Thomas Hill, born 22Jun1874 at Hindmarsh, Sth Aust; married to Agatha Ellen Gill on 2Nov1894 at Port Adelaide, Sth Aust; Emb.06Aug1900 on HMCS Protector; RTA 06Jan1901 on HMCS Protector.

On the Pay roll name shown as H.T.Hill and pay signed for by A.E.Hill (wife). However, on the medal roll for H.M.S.Protector, name is shown as W.H.Hill, medal number 10670, rank of A.B.

With comprehensive research including photocopy of hand-written diary, and typed copy of same, of George Frederick Jeffrey on the HMS Protector to the Boxer Rebellion as well as confirmation of medal entitlement to William Hill. Also a copy of the booklet, The Navy in SA by Ronald Parsons.
