TASMANIAN INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, 1891-2, in silver (32mm) (C.1891-2/4), die variety reverse with 'Awarded/To', inscribed to, 'Jas.Coulter Esq./In Commemoration'. A few small edge nicks, otherwise extremely fine.
James Coulter (1832-1907) was born in Ireland and served in the Cork Constabulary. He migrated to Tasmania and became Superintendent of Police in Launceston. In 1870 he was Chairman of Directors of the Launceston Equitable Building Society, formed in January of that year. It is now the oldest building society in Australia operating under the name Bass & Equitable Building Society.
