LESBOS, Methymna, (2nd-1st centuries B.C.), AE 16, (4.67 g), obv. helmeted head of Athena to right with countermark with a lyre, rev. a kantharos with M - [A]/**Q* [Y], (Franke, Munzpragung 29, cf.SNG Cop.357-359, No.359 also with lyre countermark in the same obverse position). Very fine/fair, rare.

Ex Dr. Adrian Carr Collection and purchased from Richard Beale.
The lyre was a typical Lesbian symbol. Coins of Mytilene also carry the same countermark.
