GALLO-BELGIC, Imported to Britain, Uninscribed Coinage, Gallo-Belgic Aa1, swirling hair and bird type, Ambiani, (c.175-170 B.C.), gold stater, (7.31 g), obv. draped head of Apollo right, with elaborate swirling hair, rev. Celticised horse to right, charioteer's arms above, X before, bird and crescent below, zigzag line in exergue, (S.1 var, Sills 259, ABC 1 var, Van A. 10-1 var, Ev. A1-2 var). Struck on a broad flan, very fine with good facial details and design on the horse, attractive and excessively rare.

This excessively rare and attractive Gallo-Belgic stater is the fifth known specimen of this type. It was found at Wakes Colne in Essex and is the first specimen to come to light with a securely recorded findspot in 150 years.
