ANCIENT BRITISH, North Thames Region, Catuvellauni and Trinovantes, Inscribed coins, Cunobelinus Wild type, (c.8-41 A.D.), gold quarter stater, (1.29 g), obv. ear of corn with no central stalk, CA to left, M[V] to right, rev. horse leaping to right, branch above, CVNO below, exergual line underneath, (S.293, ABC 2813, Van A 1935 var, NT 8, BMC 1844 var, M -). Nice rose gold, good solid ear of wheat, high relief horse with good inscription, nearly extremely fine and an extremely rare variety.

Chris Rudd notes that this is one of the finest examples he has seen. It is an extremely rare variety with only seven grains in the corn ear, the reverse legend CVNO instead of the customary CVN and the line below.
Only 10 examples of this type are estimated to exist.
