SHAH JAHAN I, (A.H. 1037-1068, A.D. 1628-1658), struck with his own name Khurram (Kharram) in reverse field, silver round rupee, Lahore Mint AH 1037/1, (KM.-, Hull 1622 the BMC example). Good very fine and very rare.
Ex Dr V.J.A. Flynn Collection, the coin in an envelope with detailed description.
Dr Flynn notes in his description that the appearance of his name with Khurran and his titles 'abu-l-Muzaffar and Nur-ad-din' are a reference to him ascending the throne. They are not found on other coins of Shah Jahan. In 1914 Whitehead knew of only the example in the British Museum of this type and its condition was only fair (illlustrated in BM catalogue). This example is one of the finest known of what appears to be existing in only a very few examples.
