SEPTIMIUS SEVERUS, (A.D. 193-211), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 200-1 (2.648 grams), obv. laureate head of Septimius Severus to right, around SEVERVS AVG PART MAX, rev. around RESTITVTOR VRBIS, Septimius in military dress standing to left, sacrificing out of a patera over a lighted tripod and holding a spear, (S.6357, RIC 167a, RSC 599); Septimius Severus, (A.D. 193-211), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 211, (2.924 grams), obv. laureate head of Septimius Severus to right, around SEVERVS PIVS AVG BRIT, rev. around VICTORIAE BRIT, Victory advancing right, holding wreath and palm, (S.6382, RIC 332, RSC 727) (illustrated). Very fine - nearly extremely fine, the last very scarce. (2)

Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 89 (lot 4116).

The last refers to the successful military campaign in northern Britain beyond the provincial frontier. Septimius Severus died at York during that campaign.
