ASOVTSEFF, Alexandra, "Still Life" oil on board 45x53cm, signed lower right, on back, a detailed advertisment on works in July 1988 'Art and Antiques'. Fine.

Alexandra Asovtseff was born in 1910 in Russia and trained initially in a 3 year tutorial under Russian teachers in Harbin, China. She lived in China from 1930 to 1953 where she studied all forms of visual arts: painting, sculpture and portraits. The Hua Government invited her to exhibit a large collection of her portraits which she painted while in China and the exhibition was televised. Moving to Sydney in the early 1960s, she held solo shows with the Royal Art Society of NSW and many group exhibitions. She was an exhibiting member of The Royal Art Society. Her work has won many prizes and is widely exhibited. She died in 1994.
