BRITISH EDUCATION AWARD TO AUSTRALIAN, Board of Education for Proficiency in Science, (1907), in bronze (38mm), edge inscribed, 'Samuel T.Farnsworth Applied Mechanics. 1907.', with Board of Education, South Kensington case. Case toned and with some marks, medal extremely fine.

Samuel Thomas Farnsworth, born 25 August 1886 at Derby in England, the son of naval commander Ronald Thomas Farnsworth. He came to Australia in 1912 and served in the AIF in WWI. He joined the Water Board in 1928 and was appointed Chief Engineer in 1935. In 1938, as Engineer-in-Chief of the Metropolitan Water Sewerage & Drainage Board he proposed the development of the full supply potential of the Warragamba River through the construction of the Warragamba Dam. Preparations for the construction began in 1942 but unfortunately Samuel did not see its completion in 1960 as he died in 1948.
