QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 2 reverse with traces of ghost dates), - four clasps - Cape Colony, Rhodesia, Orange Free State, Transvaal. 289 Bglr: W.G.Yelland, Victorian M.R. Impressed. KSA riband attached to ribbon, very small edge bump, otherwise nearly extremely fine.

Entitled to King's South Africa Medal 1902 with two clasps for service as Bugler with Pietersburg Light Horse (previously called Bushveldt Carbineers). Roll notes that this medal was unclaimed and was returned to Woolwich 26Aug1913.

Bushveldt Carbineers' medal roll records that QSA with CC and Rhodesia clasps from 4/V.I.B. roll.

William Gleadow (also recorded as Gledon) Yelland 4th (Imperial) Contingent, born Jan1878 at St Kilda, Vic and educated at Geelong College; contingent comprised 31 officers (and 2 supernumeraries) and 598 other ranks; Emb.01May1900; Disch. at East London on consideration of Regiment for purpose of joining the Bushveldt Carbineers; Enl.03Jul1901 in Bushveldt Carbineers (Regt No.35067) at East London. This was the unit Breaker Morant served in after his time had expired with the South Australian Mounted Rifles and he had a break in England.
