MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.498 grams), Babylon mint, issued 311-305 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with serpent, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, **[BA]SILE[WS]* and MI in left field, to right **[A]LEXANDP[OU]* and MPT in wreath, (cf.S.6702; Price 3748, M.731, BMC 3748a-c, SNG Cop. 639). Extremely fine and rare.
