CHARLES I, (1625-1649), Bridgnorth-on-Severn Mint, silver fourpence, 1646, mm flumelet on obverse, rev. scroll above declaration, (2.02 g), (S.3042, N.2525). Toned, extremely fine and scarce.

Ex Mark E. Freehill Collection, from Sotheby's Auction Sale 23rd January 1980 (lot 119) and from Spink Auctions Sale 124 (lot 1769) from the La Riviere Collection, with earlier envelopes.

The mint had been attributed to "Lundy Island' for many years, however as the Royalist forces held Bridgenorth- on- Severn from 28 February 1646 to 26 April 1646, it was suggested in SCBI (No.33 p.xli) by Mr.Boon that Bridgenorth-on-Severn would be the best candidate as the mint for these coins.
