MM TRIO: Military Medal (GVR type 1); British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 4542 Pte V.E.Splatt. 22/Aust:Inf: on first medal, 4542 Pte. V.E.Splatt. 22-Bn. A.I.F. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Display mounted, contact marks, otherwise very fine.

Together with modern 22 Aust Infy Bn colour patch on descriptive card.

MM: Supplement to London Gazette 7/10/1918, p11841; CAG: 12/2/1919, p261.

Recommendation: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on Ville-Sur-Ancre on the morning of the 19th inst. This man was acting as Company Runner, and though wounded whilst advancing onto the enemy position, he remained on duty and refused to go to the R.A.P. He rendered invaluable assistance to his Company Commander in maintaining communication with the Platoon in the advanced posts, passing many times across the most exposed positions under severe M.G. fire. He continued to carry messages, and rendered splendid service right throughout the operation.
