RUSSIAN SERVING SPOON, in silver, with hallmark on reverse of handle, '92' (St Petersburg, 92 zolotnik silver mark) (.980 fine silver; tot wt 45g), end of handle with engraved flora and on the back of the handle is stipple inscribed, 'H.Mellin in Libau'. End of handle with small bend, engraving well worn, otherwise very good and historic.

Hermann Friedrich Anton Mellin was a German Baltic merchant with Russian citizenship since 1845. He was the Prussian consul in 1855 and an elder of the city of Libau in 1864.

The Mellin Family were important figures in Livonia in Riga and Libau under Sweden (Duchy of Courland and Semigallia) and under the Imperial Russian Empire.

Together with research including the history of the port city of Libau.
