NEW ZEALAND, parchment document being Grant No.11116 under the Otago Waste Lands Act 1866 for Block 1 Waikouaiti District to Elias Jones of the Town of Blueskin in the Province of Otago, farmer, dated 21 September 1870 and signed personally by Sir George Ferguson Brown, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Colony of New Zealand at Wellington, with notations on back and officially stamped. Good fine.

Elias Jones was born near Belturbet, County Cavan, Ireland in 1833 and arrived in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1858. He married Margaret Pullar at Waitai, Otago and they had five children. He died on 31 August 1906 in Seacliff, Dunedin, Otago and was buried at Blueskin Cemetery. Vendor advises that Elias Jones said to be related to John Jones, the Australian born sealer, whaler, ship owner, trader and entrepreneur who had extensive business interests in Waikouaiti in New Zealand.
