ITALY, Calabria, Tarentum, (c.302-280 B.C.), plated silver nomos (5.87 g), obv. nude horseman on horse galloping right, blundered inscription, **HUKOWLMO* below, rev. Taras astride dolphin left, holding kantharos and distaff, (Greek "Z")OP and gazelle below. **GA GAS*, (S.-, Vlasto 705 [This Coin]; cf.HN Italy 970-971, cf.HGC 819). Very fine, piece out of edge, uneven patination and unique.

Ex George Mihailuk Collection, acquired from Richard Welling, 29.10.2008, previously from the M.P. Vlasto Collection (weight in error recorded as 8.83 g and should be 5.87 g, also previously from the Ars Classica Sale XII Geneva (Lucerne), 18 October 1926 (lot 259) where it is recorded and illustrated correctly as 5.87 g.
